A Therapist’s Perspective: The Healing Power of Shock Wave Therapy

As a massage therapist with a busy practice in Collingwood, Ontario, I’ve experienced many treatments from chiropractors, physiotherapists, and acupuncturists—but nothing has matched the results I achieved with shockwave therapy.

I was referred by a highly active friend who had recovered from multiple injuries using this approach. Although I had tried shockwave previously without success, I quickly learned that outcomes depend heavily on proper protocols and structured aftercare.

Shockwave therapy is derived from lithotripsy technology developed in the 1980s, used to break down kidney stones. In musculoskeletal care, it operates at lower energy levels to stimulate circulation, break down calcifications, and accelerate tissue healing.

My treatment involved a strategic, multi-session approach using different transmitter heads, combined with a progressive loading exercise program. As treatment frequency decreased, exercise intensity increased—producing exceptional results.

A long-standing shoulder injury that had resisted all prior therapies is now fully resolved.

I’m extremely grateful to my therapist, Ken Brown, whose training in Switzerland and extensive experience were evident throughout. Through his company, SWT Therapy Group, he not only treats patients but also trains clinicians internationally to deliver optimal outcomes.

If you’re dealing with a persistent injury, this therapy is well worth considering—it was truly transformative for me.
